  • New to Tuning/VW

I just bought a 2002 Jetta 1.8T (Automatic) yesterday and I am planning on using it as my daily for a long time. Just wondering what are some pretty cheap mods to get some good whp and not kill my engine. I was reading some stuff on chipping and I read it takes alot of wear on the transmission, cuts its life down to about 30K miles?

Also, just wondering where the cheapest place around DFW to get smoked side marker lights would be, and how hard are they to install.

    Thanks for helping a noob.

I would look up 42draftdesigns for the side markers.
ECU Tuning for your car starts at $400 and goes up
    depending on the design/program company.

Yeah, I looked at it on your website and I will most likely be geting the chip within a few months, just gotta save up the cash. I really like the smoked side markers on the 42 draft designs site, any idea where I can find fender markers of similar quality?

Hmmm . . . I just changed out my yellow markers for clear ones from 42draft.
You didn't find any on their website?

p.s. - most of your parts you will buy won't be from a store in the area. you'll do most of your shopping online.

Oh, I found the yellow ones. I just wanted the indicators on the fender to be smoked as well.

                thanks everyone for the advice.

I think you meant "won't" kill your tranny.

The chip will yield you about 25-30 horsepower gain and 50ft lbs torque. I recommend GIAC, APR and Revo. I would also recommend a Cold Air Intake can it could add another 5-10 hp. Also look at upgrading your diverter valve to a Forge 007 or a FMDV001 dump valve. I have had all of these on previous cars so I speak from experience. Good luck
